Waste Management Seeks Reversal Of Nashville Landfill Decision

Waste Management (Houston, TX) has asked a Davidson County (Tenn.) Chancery Court to review a July landfill expansion decision by Nashville's Metro Solid Waste Regional Board saying the board's rejection of the plan was "characterized by an abuse of discretion and a clearly unwarranted exercise of discretion." The company's Southern Services landfill accepts construction and demolition waste, and received initial approval from the board last year. FAA Requires Approval Of Proposed Indiana Landfill

The Federal Aviation Administration (www.faa.gov) has announced that a proposed landfill development in Marion, Ind. near the Williamson County Regional Airport will require FAA approval. The Kibler Development Corporation contends that the Marion Ridge Landfill proposal will not need FAA approval since it will only be used to dispose of construction waste. New York City Demolishes Brooklyn Incinerator

The New York City Department of Sanitation (www.ci.nyc.ny.us/html/dos) is demolishing its incinerator in southwest Brooklyn to make way for a new transfer station. The facility has stood on the Brooklyn waterfront since 1961, and burned an average of 300 tons of waste a day for 30 years. City crews expect to completely clean the incinerator's area by November. Arcadis Wins $43.5M AFB Remediation Task Order

Arcadis (NASDAQ: ARCAF) has won a fixed price remediation task order for $43.5 million at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas. The task order will effect the closure of all environmental investigations, remedial operations, permits, compliance plans, and all other activities. In November 1995, the Air Force announced that Reese Air Force Base would be permanently shuttered by September 1997 after serving for 50 years as a training facility for pilots.
