Environmental groups have much to celebrate with the imminent changes in both houses of Congress from this last election. Committees, now chaired by Republicans will soon feature prominent Democrats. For example, California's Barbara Boxer will chair the Environment and Public Works Committee now run by James Inhofe of Oklahoma. Boxer is known as an outspoken liberal while Inhofe has called global warming "the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people." Boxer has said that she wants to end secrecy over the cleanup of hazardous waste at Super Fund sites and plans aggressive oversight of environmental programs that affect public health.
