Norcal Opens Major New Recycling Center in San Francisco

Recycle Central by Norcal Waste Systems Inc., billed as "the most modern recycling facility in the United States," opened last week on San Francisco's Pier 96. The 200,000-square-foot plant is capable of sorting and baling up to 2,100 tons of recyclables a day. Recyclables in the $38 million facility are separated using a combination of specialized equipment and hand sorting. Casella Waste Systems Purchases Hardwick Landfill

Casella Waste Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CWST) has entered into an agreement to acquire the Hardwick Sanitary Landfill in Hardwick, Mass. The facility is primarily a construction and demolition debris landfill, although it is allowed to accept a limited amount of municipal solid waste and certain difficult-to-manage wastes, the company said. The facility currently is permitted to accept 300 tons per day, including 50 tons per day of MSW. RPM Announces New "Smart Plastic" Pallet

RPM Technologies Inc. (OTC BB: RPMM.OB) has developed a "smart plastic" pallet which will save costs while offering strength and safety benefits. Company officials noted that completely recyclable RPM plastic pallet will meet and exceed their expectations. A RPM plastic pallet that costs $11 will last at least 75 trips, or $0.15 per trip. A wood pallet that costs $8 will last for about seven trips, or $1.14 per trip. Wood pallets also weigh 45 to 50 pounds, versus 22 pounds for the RPM Plastic Pallet. Noranda Establishes New Electronic Recycling Facility In Toronto

Noranda Inc. is investing in a new electronic hardware recycling facility in Canada. The operation, the only one of its kind in Canada, will be located in an 82,200 square-foot industrial facility in Brampton, Ontario, near Toronto. The new facility is expected to be operational by summer 2003. The expansion is a direct response to increasing volumes of end-of-life electronics in Canada. Foster Wheeler Sells Subsidiary to Tetra Tech

Foster Wheeler Ltd. (NYSE: FWC) has announced the sale of the operating business of its wholly owned subsidiary, Foster Wheeler Environmental Corporation, to Tetra Tech, Inc. on March 7, 2003. Foster Wheeler received immediate net cash proceeds of approximately $80 million. Foster Wheeler also expects to receive an additional $57 million before year-end under FWENC's contract with a federal agency, which was not included in the sale. Ecology & Environment Wins Analysis Contract From EPA

Ecology & Environment Inc. has received a contract worth up to $7.3 million from the Environmental Protection Agency to provide analytical support services.
