Advanced Disposal Unveils Landfill Gas-To-Energy Facility At Wolf Creek Landfill
A Cleaner and Greener Tomorrow Begins with Special Earth Day Celebration
Advanced Disposal Services, Inc., a regional integrated environmental services company, announced the completion of its landfill gas-to-energy generation facility at Wolf Creek Landfill Thursday during a special Earth Day ceremony held for the community, partners and government officials.
The gas-to-energy process reduces the reliance on fossil fuels, such as coal and oil, by capturing the gas and utilizing it as fuel to produce green energy. The $4.5 million project will provide significant environmental benefits to Twiggs County and the surrounding area by capturing the landfill gas and utilizing it as a fuel to produce green energy. The environmental benefits will be equivalent to removing 22,700 passenger vehicles from area highways, while providing enough electricity to power 1,650 homes.
"The Wolf Creek Landfill gas-to-energy installation began last year, and its completion is a milestone most suitable to mark around Earth Day, when the world's attention is toward preserving our natural resources," said Gerald Allen, Advanced Disposal vice president - landfills. "It's through our partnerships with Oconee EMC and Green Power EMC that we are able to carry out our mission of the leaving the world cleaner than we found it. We look forward to this gas-to-energy facility providing environmental benefits for many Earth Days (and generations) to come."
Event attendees included state legislators, Twiggs and Wilkinson County commissioners, members from Twiggs County Chamber of Commerce, Environmental Protection Agency, Middle Georgia Regional Development Center and Twiggs Industrial Authority, along with company executives, project partners and neighbors. Everyone was invited to a tour of the facility following the ribbon cutting.
