Enerkem Announces New Board Director - Timothy J. Cesarek of Waste Management Joins Enerkem's Board
Enerkem Inc., a leading waste-to-biofuel and advanced chemical company, today announced the expansion of its board of directors. Timothy J. Cesarek, managing director in the Organic Growth Group of Waste Management, Inc. ( WM), joined the company as a Director. As announced last February, Waste Management became a strategic investor in Enerkem during the company's last financing round.
The addition of Mr. Cesarek was announced at the Advanced Biofuels Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. His contribution as a director will enhance Enerkem's expertise in the waste sector. Currently, Mr. Cesarek is responsible for originating and commercializing innovative technologies that are consistent with Waste Management's core business. Waste Management is actively involved in developing ways to create value from waste streams by converting them into energy, fuels and chemicals, as well as commercializing technologies that enable the recycling and reuse of waste materials.
"Waste Management is one of Enerkem's key partners on our path to leadership in the waste-to-biofuel industry," said Vincent Chornet, president and chief executive officer of Enerkem. "Tim Cesarek brings extensive experience and knowledge of waste-converting innovations and the collection and management of a wide range of waste streams to Enerkem. His participation will contribute to the acceleration of our business."
Prior to joining Waste Management, Mr. Cesarek was the president of Koch Genesis where he led the corporate venture arm, identifying and commercializing technologies external to the research and development effort of Koch Industries. Koch is one of the largest privately held companies in North America, with businesses in chemicals, refined fuels, polymers, resins wood products and consumer products.
"Waste-to-biofuel companies like Enerkem are poised to play an important role in helping cities and states reduce waste, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and develop sustainable local businesses," said Mr. Cesarek. "I look forward to working with this dynamic team to help fuel Enerkem's growth and maintain its leadership role."

It will soon start the construction of its waste-to-biofuel plant in Edmonton, AB, Canada and is currently developing a similar project in Mississippi, U.S.A., for which it was awarded US$50 million in funding by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
