Five More Revised Waste Industry Standards Now Available at WASTEC

The Waste Equipment Technology Association (WASTEC), Washington, D.C., is pleased to announce that five waste industry standards have been approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI):

  • ANSI Z245.2-2008: Equipment Technology and Operations for Wastes and Recyclable Materials - Stationary Compactors - Safety Requirements for Installation, Maintenance and Operation;

  • ANSI Z245.21-2008: Equipment Technology and Operations for Wastes and Recyclable Materials - Stationary Compactors - Safety Requirements;

  • ANSI Z245.41-2008: ANSI Z245.21-2008: Equipment Technology and Operations for Wastes and Recyclable Materials - Facilities for the Processing of Commingled Recyclable Materials - Safety Requirements

  • ANSI Z245.5-2008: Equipment Technology and Operations for Wastes and Recyclable Materials - Baling Equipment - Safety Requirements for Installation, Maintenance and Operation; and

  • ANSI Z245.51-2008: Equipment Technology and Operations for Wastes and Recyclable Materials - Baling Equipment - Safety Requirements

WASTEC is off to a great start in 2008 with these five newly approved standards," said Gary Satterfield, WASTEC's Executive Vice President. "ANSI standards are extremely important to our members because they make a statement that safety is a number one issue for the waste industry."

ANSI Z245.2 revises the stationary compactor equipment safety requirements previously found in ANSI Z245.2-1997 by providing specific requirements for installation, maintenance, repair and operation necessary to ensure the safe operation of the stationary compactor. This standard complements ANSI Z245.21-2008 which details the safety requirements for design and construction of stationary compactors.

ANSI Z245.41 is applicable to those who design, manufacture, assemble, modify, operate, clean, maintain, service, or repair material recovery facilities (MRFs) which engage in receiving, storing, and processing commingled recyclable materials that have been previously collected or otherwise diverted from the solid waste stream.
ANSI Z245.5 establishes safety requirements for the installation, maintenance, repair and operation of commercial baling equipment. ANSI Z245.51 is applicable to the safety requirements for the design and construction of commercial baling equipment commonly used in recycling, solid waste disposal and raw materials handling. Both these standards taken together revise and replace the former 1997 standards.

The revised standards can be purchased through the WASTEC Publications Department at 800-424-2869 or pubsales@envasns.org.

WASTEC is the trade association for the solid waste and recycling equipment industry. Members include equipment manufacturers, distributors, consultants, and service providers.
