The Page County (Va.) Board of Supervisors (www.co.page.va.us) has approved a settlement that would end six years of private ownership of its landfill. Under the settlement, the supervisors would pay $8.5 million for the Battle Creek Landfill and would end all litigation with National Waste Services of Virginia. The company went bankrupt last year when the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (www.deq.state.va.us) shut it down for taking in too much waste.
