Mobile, Ariz. residents have filed a complaint against Maricopa County supervisors over a landfill proposed by Southpoint Environmental Services Inc. The suit claims the supervisors acted improperly last December by approving a special-use permit and major plan amendment to build the landfill on 690 acres near the Sierra Estrella Mountains. The five-member board voted 3-1 in favor of the project, but attorneys for the residents protested that the amendment would require a two-thirds supermajority, or the assenting vote of another commissioner.
