ABSTRACT:
On Christmas
Eve 2003, the state of South Carolina reached a final settlement
with the bankrupt Safety-Kleen Corp., bringing to a close a decade
of contentious disputes between the state and the company. As part
of the settlement, South Carolina took over responsibility for maintenance
and cleanup of its Pinewood landfill in Sumter County.
