Electronics Waste:
EPA's Plug Into E-Cycling Campaign Arrives With Promise
and Controversy
|
 |
ISSUE:
Volume 14, Number 3-4, 2004
|
 |
ABSTRACT:
Electronics
are an inseparable element of American life, in part because of
their utility, and in part because, like automobiles, they epitomize
the American need for more, better, faster. It's a longstanding
joke that anyone who purchases a computer had better avoid looking
at sales the next day, or they'll find a better model on sale cheaper.
And with this constant need for better technology comes a concurrent
need to figure out what to do with the old technology. Electronics
waste management is a growing concern the solid waste arena, and
the federal government, environmental groups, and industry are all
working to have their own say on how it should be conducted.
