ABSTRACT:
For decades
in America, construction and demolition waste was an afterthought-the
detritus of progress, dumped in pits not even important enough to
warrant environmental protection. But now, with recycling encouraged
in all locales and mandated in many, state leaders are taking a
hard look at C&D waste-and seeing opportunity. Concrete, asphalt,
wood, gypsum, and construction materials-all of these are seeing
new life as aggregate, building materials, fuel, and other end markets.
