SPECIAL REPORT: Solid Waste Outlook
Industry Predictions for 2002: More Of The Same, Until Things Begin To Change

ISSUE: Volume 12, Number 1 January 2002

ABSTRACT:

With the economy in a downturn and the nation still reeling from the events of September 11, perhaps this is a good time to be in the solid waste industry. After all, we work in what many have called a “recession-resistant” field. People will continue to produce waste, and will continue to need a place to put it, no matter what the economic situation. And there’s little likelihood that the industry will implode in a dot-com vortex.

So what does 2002 hold for the solid waste industry? Solid Waste Digest gathered several experts in the field to give their perspective on the industry as a whole and their localities in particular. And the response as summarized below was almost unanimous—“wait and see.”
