Environmental Quality Launches New Transfer Facility
The Environmental Quality Company is launching a new full service transfer, storage and disposal facility to serve the Atlantic Coast states. EQ purchased the facility, which is located in Apex, North Carolina, and will open it as EQ North Carolina later this month. The 4.5-acre facility, located between Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte, has a RCRA permit to store, bulk, and transfer more than 600 industrial and hazardous wastes codes. Its permitted storage capacity is 2,100 drums. Waste Management Inc. (NYSE: WMI) is one of 14 companies to join the Chicago Climate Exchange as a founding member. CCX is a non-governmental entity established to develop a voluntary marketplace for reducing and trading greenhouse gas emissions. In July 2001, Waste Management became one of the original design phase members of CCX. Akron Landfill Expansion Finally Put To Rest
The cities of Akron and Cuyahoga Falls and Waste Management have announced that there will be no expansion of the now-closed Hardy Road landfill, bringing to an end a contentious issue that has divided the cities. TRC Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRR) has signed a contract with Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE: LMT) for the cleanup of the former Lockheed Shipyard unit of the Harbor Island Superfund Site located in Seattle, Wash. The contract is valued at $26.7 million. TRC will be responsible for remediation of the site, including pier demolition, bulkhead replacement, dredging and disposal of sediments and the construction of a cap overlying the remaining sediments. Washington Group International, Inc. (OTCBB: WGII) is teaming with CH2M Hill and BWX Technologies on an environmental closure contract from the U.S. Department of Energy for environmental restoration at the Miamisburg Closure Project in Ohio. The contract value is approximately $314 million. The contract calls for the demolition of 66 facilities, including the removal of all above-ground utilities and structures at the former nuclear weapons material processing site.
