Air Force, Tennessee Governments at Odds Over Landfill Cleanup

The U.S. Department of Justice, on behalf of the Air Force, has filed a civil suit against Tennessee's Coffee County and the cities of Manchester and Tullahoma for the cleanup of a landfill on Air Force property. According to the suit, the Air Force has spent at least $9 million in cleanup and seeks restitution for the work done at the Arnold Air Force Base. The liability issue has dominated talks between the Air Force and local governments since the landfill shut down sixteen years ago.
